Non Insured Health BenefitsFirst Nations and Inuit Health Branch, Health Canada The Non-Insured Health Benefits Program (NIHB) is a national health benefit program that funds a limited range of medically necessary health-related goods and services to eligible registered First Nations and recognized Inuit (clients). As the payer of last resort NIHB provides goods and services not already provided through private insurance plans, provincial/territorial health or social programs or other publicly funded programs. The benefits funded include prescription drugs, over-the-counter medication, medical supplies and equipment, short-term crisis intervention mental health counselling, dental care, vision care and medical transportation to access medically required health services not provided on the reserve or in the community of residence. Residential Rehabilitation Program, Home Adaptation for Seniors, Independence Shelter Enhancement Program, Emergency Repair ProgramCanada Mortgage and Housing Corporation These programs may provide persons with low income, persons with disabilities, seniors and Aboriginals with grants and loans to repair their homes, rental units, rooming houses or shelters. Persons with disabilities may be provided with a forgivable loan to complete modifications related to their specific disability (i.e. wheelchair ramp, grab bars, etc.).
